When we brought our former dogs home, we took turns with hubby to sleep on the floor with the puppy until he calmed down and felt at home (usually 2 weeks). It was also practical because it was easier to set up a routine (for us 2 a.m. worked with every dog- if we got up at this time and took out the puppy to pee and poop then there were no accidents). With Cimbora we felt too old and tired for this practice so we agreed that we would make his bed in the bedroom, next to our bed. It would not last long we thought, because Raggi our late Tibetan Mastiff and Mafi, our late Great Pyr, moved into the garden voluntarily when they reached the age of 3-4 months. Haha.... The only thing we forgot to take into consideration that Cimbi is a Landseer.
And he had no intention to move out, oh no, silly of us to hope this.
When we realized this we moved his bed to the living room. It was a desperate attempt because he never used his bed, he prefers to sleep on the hard floor. You can imagine how much he cared about this, lol. The only possibility would be if we closed the bedroom door. But we cannot do this because Taira is getting old now and she sometimes has to go out at night and if the door was closed she would not be able to call us. So it is a catch 22.
We had to understand again that whatever Cimbi wants, Cimbi gets. So now we have a noisy sleeping companion who snores, belches, farts and who regularly comes to check me at night, he stands over me until I wake up then he gives me a kiss and goes back to sleep. It often annoys me but now, that I am typing this note here, I realize that it is heartbreakingly sweet of him....
